Queens County Young Democrats
The Queens County Young Democrats (QCYD) is a progressive organization of Democrats between the ages of 16 and 36, dedicated to advancing the highest principles of the Democratic Party and inspiring the participation of all people in politics, public policy and service. As the officially recognized youth arm of the Queens Democratic Party, QCYD is especially focused on inspiring, educating and involving young people who want to make a difference.
The Queens County Young Democrats is committed to:
democratic procedures – (note the small “d”) Our organizational governance is based on democratic procedures that include, a fairly elected executive board, the principle of majority rule and the encouragement of free expression and full participation.
(Public) Service – Service is at the heart of why we are involved with politics – the desire to leave to the next generation a community and country that is safer and more prosperous. Whether we are helping clean up our local neighborhood, raising money for a nonprofit organization that helps women deal with breast or ovarian cancer, or helping a school that teaches children living with autism, our service goes beyond our involvement in politics.
Astoria Park Alliance
Astoria Park Alliance exists to ensure the conservation and sustainability of Astoria Park for all New Yorkers by empowering public partnerships. We create programming that reflects that cultural diversity of our community and meets the needs of our users.
APA advocates for green and open space in the park, with a keen eye on environmental issues. We maintain a close relationship with our fellow park users, facilitating communication with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation and local appointed and elected officials.
We are a non-profit community volunteer group based in Astoria, NY and encourage on new residents to attend community voice meetings and join our team. Astoria Park Alliance believes that building a community starts in the park — so come out and volunteer with us!
Astoria Park Alliance hosts Community Voice Meetings on the 1st Tuesday of each month at the Bohemian Hall Beer Garden classroom space. From Spring to Autumn we organize bi-weekly volunteer opportunities in the park. Visit our event calendar to discover how you can get involved in Astoria Park.
Powhatan Democratic Club
Founded in 1901, the Powhatan and Pocahontas Regular Democratic Club is based in Astoria, Queens, NY. Powhatan and Pocahontas is a club that merged in the 1990s to include both the original male-only club (Powhatan) and original female-only club (Pocahontas). We represent the 36th Assembly District, Part A.
Our club is lead by our Executive Board and District Leaders, who are two representatives from our neighborhood elected by Democratic primary voters during biennial state primaries. We are proud that our District Leaders are AnneMarie Anzalone and Costa Constantinides, who is the City Council Member that represents the 22nd District which includes Astoria.
Stonewall Democrats
The Stonewall Democratic Club of New York City was founded in 1986 as the first and only citywide LGBT Democratic organization in New York City. We continue to advocate for legislation that guarantees equality and fairness for the LGBT community in NYC, representing the political ideas, ideals, concerns, and priorities of the LGBT community of New York City and New York State.
The organization achieves these goals by supporting well qualified candidates for local, state, and national office, and by supporting and lobbying for our civil rights, legislative agenda, healthcare, information and education, and for funding for our institutions and organizations.
Meetings are the 4th Wednesday of every month at 8PM. Unless otherwise specified, or for special events, club meetings are usually at the LGBT Community Center, 208 West Thirteenth Street between Seventh and Greenwich Avenues. Click here for information about SDNYC's next meeting!
